Wisdom for the Road
Between launching kids, moving, my husband’s surgeries, and coordinating conferences, it’s been difficult to find the time to write here. Lately, though, things have slowed down and I’ve started jotting down short devotionals for parents. Maybe someday I will gather them up and create a little book, but for now, I’ll post them here…from my heart to yours. 🙂
Ever have that feeling that you have no idea how to parent your child? I doubt there is a parent out there that hasn’t had that sense of foreboding and doubted that he/she was qualified for the task.
Parenting is no small deal. Sometimes we take it too lightly and sometimes too seriously. Sometimes we aren’t even sure HOW to feel!
James1:5-8 has been the passage that I have depended on the most over my years as a mom:
If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you.
He will not rebuke you for asking.
But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone.
Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind.
Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord.
Their loyalty is divided between God and the world, and they are unstable in everything they do.
God is giving a clear directive: ASK. Ask Him for wisdom and He WILL give it to you, but also BELIEVE that He will give it…that’s part of receiving it. And don’t waver in believing that He will do what He said He will do. That’s evidence of where your heart is: is it divided? Are you saying you want wisdom, but then really depending on your own way?
There is SO much information available. That CAN be good and helpful, but not when it causes us not to depend on Him.
I have held God to His promise that He would give me wisdom more times than I can count. Not once has He ever failed me.
He is faithful. He CARES. He has a good plan for you and a good plan for your kids. Let Him make His ways known to you and give you peace as you raise your children in the way that HE directs.
