The Comparison Trap

THE COMPARISON TRAP

Galatians 6:4,5

“Pay careful attention to your own work,

for then you will get the satisfaction

of a job well done, and you won’t need to

compare yourself to anyone else.

For we are each responsible for our own conduct.”

I LOVE this passage. It reminds me of how very important it is that I do what God has put in front of me, no more, no less. It doesn’t matter what my mom friends are doing or appear to be doing on Facebook or Instagram or even in real life. It matters that I am responsible to God for tending my OWN garden(family) the way that He calls me to!

Our thought life can easily be distracted with what others are doing (or appear to be doing) and this can quickly turn into anxiety and worry that we aren’t doing enough.

In this passage, God is freeing us from the burden of comparisons! He wants us to have our hearts turned toward Him…to listen for His still, small voice and walk in obedience to THAT, no more, no less.

In I Thessalonians 4:11,12 it says:

“Make it your goal to live a quiet life,

minding your own business and

working with your hands,

just as we instructed you before.

Then people who are not believers

will respect the way you live, and you

will not need to depend on others.”

This is a beautiful picture of motherhood and an unhurried life at home!

We live in a world that longs to be seen and heard and yet God is calling us to a quiet life tending what HE has placed before us. WHY? Because this is a testimony that glorifies God and causes others to be drawn to how very differently we live our lives BECAUSE we are Christians. It’s both a testimony of a deep trust in Him AND the perfect recipe to avoid comparisons.

I want to challenge you to be focuses and intentional today in tending just the sweet life and good work that God has placed in front of you. Savor it, relax in it and trust God that it is GOOD and it is ENOUGH!!
