Do you ever feel like you don’t really have any words left to pray? As moms, we do SO MANY WORDS EVERY.SINGLE.DAY.
I’ve got GREAT news for you! God’s Word is FULL of prayers that we can pray.
I used to feel like it didn’t count if I didn’t come up with my own prayers myself, but I was wrong. There is more than one kind of prayer and I firmly believe God gave His Word for us to use in prayer, much like scaffolding! It holds us up as we enter into His presence and more often than not, I find that that is all it takes for us to start finding our own words and pouring out our hearts to Him!
God is so good. He knew we would sometimes need this help and He provided it long before we even knew we needed it.
I encourage you to unhurry your heart for a bit and pray this Psalm back to God.
I give you thanks, O Lord, with all my heart;
I will sing your praises before the gods.
I bow before your holy Temple as I worship.
I praise your name for your unfailing love and faithfulness;
for your promises are backed
by all the honor of your name.
As soon as I pray, you answer me;
you encourage me by giving me strength.
Every king in all the earth will thank you, Lord,
for all of them will hear your words.
Yes, they will sing about the Lord’s ways,
for the glory of the Lord is very great.
Though the Lord is great, he cares for the humble,
but he keeps his distance from the proud.
Though I am surrounded by troubles,
you will protect me from the anger of my enemies.
You reach out your hand,
and the power of your right hand saves me.
The Lord will work out his plans for my life—
for your faithful love, O Lord, endures forever.
Don’t abandon me, for you made me.
-PSALM 138
God’s presence will faithfully abide in you and around you today as you care for your families. Talk to Him throughout the day.
“I must learn a continuous silent conversation of heart to heart with God while looking into other eyes and listening to other voices.” (Alan Fadling)

I never really thought about how much it can help to lean on someone else’s words when my own prayers feel empty, but it’s comforting to see how Scripture can act like scaffolding instead of a replacement for a personal prayer life. I always imagined that “real” prayer meant I had to come up with my own thoughts every time, yet the idea that turning a Psalm like 138 back to God can actually unlock my own words makes the whole process feel much less heavy and performative. I like the thought that mothers, in particular, can use God’s ready‑made prayers as a resting place in the middle of a day full of noise and demands, and that those borrowed…
Such a comforting reminder—using scripture as a guide for prayer really helps when words feel hard to find, and it brings a deeper sense of peace and connection. Also, for a simple moment to unwind, you can check out eggy car.
